The clock at Dunsoggany Station chimed fourteen.

Are you so brainwashed that you can’t see the truth?’ I yelled.

The only other passenger at Dunsoggany Station glanced at his watch, and walked a little further along the platform.

‘Ignoring the truth doesn’t stop it being true. Look around. Like Rick Shrill said, the number three is key.’

The only other passenger at Dunsoggany Station pretended not to hear.

‘Think about it’, I continued, ‘The Christian Trinity, The Hindu Trimurti, The Three Buddhist Truths. The Godfather Movie Series.’

The only other passenger at Dunsoggany Station turned away.

‘Don’t ignore me. Look at that footbridge. It’s not real. It’s wonky. Whatever created the simulation we are in must’ve gotten sloppy. So arrogant that they thought us humans wouldn’t notice the imperfections. Like Rick said, it is statistically probable that we are in a simulation. And that is insight number one.’

I pointed to the bridge.

‘The badly simulated bridge is number two. And then there is that clock.’

‘What about the clock?’ asked the other passenger. They had been his first words to me.

It is the third insight. Proof this is not reality. Did you not hear all the chimes?, our simulated time has unwound and failed.’

‘That clock is broken. Are you okay?’

  • Suddenly I wasn’t sure.
  • I was on my way to the night shift of my second job.
  • And hadn’t slept properly in weeks.
  • I knew it wasn’t a sustainable way to live.
  • Listening to the Rick Shrill Podcast had been a harmless escape from constant drudgery.
  • But maybe I had listened too much.

‘Sorry’, I said as the train pulled in.

The only other passenger at Dunsoganny station leaned in close as we boarded the train.

‘Keep looking, and you will find the third insight’, he hissed.
